During WW1, the British Royal Navy faced many challenges hiding ships from U-boats, and many of the navy's ships were decimated. Lieutenant Norman Wilkinson had a plan to solve this problem.

He painted the "Mauretania," a troop ship for the British Navy, in bold geometric patterns, to confuse enemy ships about its direction and size, Creating an optical illusion known as dazzle camouflage. His plan worked wonders and played a considerable role in protecting troops during WW1 from U-boats.

In 1915, The RMS Mauretania played a crucial role in the Gallipoli campaign, ferrying troops despite a submarine attack. Later, it was converted into a hospital ship, evacuating wounded soldiers. With dazzle camouflage, the Mauretania transported over 30,000 American troops to safety. Our socks capture the spirit of a vessel.
